ScummVM 1.9.0 "Myst-ery U.F.O.s Release" Is Here

ScummVM, the project that aims to re-create engines for adventure games, using the original scripts and data files, so that the games run on modern (and some not-so-modern) systems, has received a new release.

This release brings support for six new games: Myst, Myst: Masterpiece Edition, U.F.O.s (also known as Gnap), and Sierra's Hi-Res adventure games #0: Mission Asteroid, #1: Mystery House, and #2: The Wizard and the Princess.

There's also been a lot of bugfixes for Sierra's SCI games, the addition of Hercules rendering and font for the AGI games, an enhanced Sherlock games experience, and the addition of AmiUpdate on the Amiga port.

Kickstarter for Obduction, from the creators of Myst

Another kickstarter from an adventure game veteran is ending soon. Obduction is an adventure game from Cyan, the creators of Myst and Riven. Like those games, Obduction is a first person adventure game that puts you in a new world with many areas to explore, and many puzzles to solve.

The kickstarter campaign is seeking 1.1 million dollars, however it is nearly there, with less than $200,000 to go, and only 5 days left. The tier to get a digital version of the game for Windows or Mac is $25, the $45 tier will get you a digital strategy guide, a digital copy of the soundtrack, and a digital artbook, and the $75 tier will get you a boxed special edition of the game plus your name as a "Box Backer" in the credits. Myst is Coming to Nintendo 3DS

Myst, the game that is rivaled only by Tetris for the amount of systems it has appeared on, is set to arrive on yet another new platform: the Nintendo 3DS.

Hoplite Research is developing this version of Cyan World's popular adventure. It will utilize the stereoscopic 3D screen of the Nintendo 3DS and will include all five islands from the original Myst plus the RIME Age which was introduced in realMYST.

Four Adventure Games Ported to Apple iOS

Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, the first episode of Telltale Games' Tales of Monkey Island, is now out on iPad. The 7th Guest, Trilobyte Games' 1993 first person horror adventure, is also available on iPad, as well as iPhone and iPod Touch. Broken Sword II: Remastered, a remastered version of Broken Sword II in the same vain as Broken Sword: Remastered is also now available on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. Finally, Riven, the sequel to Myst, is now available for iPhone and iPod touch. The iOS platform has certainly become a great venue for adventure games.
