Super Bombermsn 2 is the second game in the Super Bomberman subseries of Bomberman games. It was released for the Super Famicom in Japan and on its Super Nintendo Entertainment System international counterpart in 1994, as well as for 32-bit Windows in Japan in 2004 as part of Bomberman Collection Vol. 2. In 2026, the SNES version was included in the Super Bomberman Collection for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S worldwide.
The game continues the graphical style set in Super Bomberman, which itself was inspired by Bomberman for the PC Engine. Everything looks great, as it is a very cute and pleasing art style. The music is fantastic as always, and the stage music motifs are really catchy and fit the style of the game perfectly.
There are fun new enemy animations such as the two-hit enemy that catches on fire after the first hit and runs quickly around the maze panicked. New mechanics such as buttons that all need to be pushed to exit the stage, magnets that will attract bombs and can have their directions changed after being blown up, and enemies that attract Bomberman toward them give the game more variety.
Some blocks now hide enemies which must be defeated before the stage door opens, and some blocks reform. There are also light puzzles which have to all be hit in order to unlock the door. Bombs blow up all lights in the blast radius and the blocks reform which help to complete these puzzles.
In addition, some paths that will light on fire and kill Bomberman if he is standing on them when they light up after the warning signal comes on.
There are five stages with eight levels. The seventh is a bomber person that has to be defeated like the arena stage in the original Super Bomberman and stage eight is a large boss contraption like most boss fights in the previous game.
Super Bomberman 2 is a fantastic game that builds upon everything established before it. The art and music are fantastic, there are some really creative animations, and the bosses are really creative. The new environment mechanics such as magnets and hidden enemies really add a lot to the experience. Any fan of Bomberman should try this game out at least once.
