Super Bomberman 4 is the fourth game in the Super Bomberman subseries of Bomberman games. It does something different this time around as it takes place throughout time.
There are new mechanics such as having to repeatedly bomb an enemy base that is releasing enemies. After the base falls, the level ends.
There are four levels with eight stages. The seventh is a bomber person that has to be defeated and stage eight is a large boss contraption like most boss fights in the series. Like Super Bomberman 3, previous stages can be revisited. The fifth stage has multiple bomber people enemies, followed by a final boss that consists of multiple giant enemies in a row.
The stages take place throughout time. The first takes place in the primitive age, with Jurassic-themed enemies and areas. The rideable creature, which gives Bomberman two hit points, that can be hatched from an egg is a dinosaur. The second stage takes place in old Japan. The mine cart reappears here, and blocks as well as tough ninjas can be destroyed with it. The rideable creature on this stage is a giant squid.
The third stage takes place in the present day. The rideable creature in this stage is a giant green bird-like creature. The fourth stage takes place in the far future. The rideable creature is a giant head.
Super Bomberman 4 is a fun game with new additions. The ridable creatures add a lot to the game, and the time travel plot really adds a lot to the game and the theming. It is a lot of fun, and is well worth playing for any Bomberman fan. Plus, it is on a lot of platforms now, so it is easier than ever to play. With its 2026 rerelease, it even is fully in English officially for the first time as the SNES version was included in the Super Bomberman Collection for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S worldwide. I highly recommend it.
