Nintendo is a Japanese company founded on September 23, 1889, by Fusajiro Yamauchi. It was originally a manufacturer of handmade Hanafuda playing cards.
It entered the industry of video game consoles in 1974 when it became the Japanese distributor of the Magnavox Odyssey. Nintendo's first console came in 1977 when they released their Color TV Game series of systems.
Today, it still manufactures video game consoles and develops video games. It has development divisions such as Nintendo EPD.
There are also several former development divisions of Nintendo including Nintendo R&D1, Nintendo R&D2, Nintendo R&D3, Nintendo R&D4, and Nintendo EAD.
