New Entertainment Research & Development was a development division within Sega that was founded on April 1, 2005. It consisted of staff from the Amusement Vision division.
In addition, most of the staff that created the Dreamcast and Xbox games at the Smilebit division were reassigned to New Entertainment R&D after the closure of the former.
On May 1, 2008, New Entertainment R&D was renamed Sega CS1.
