Bomber Man was released for the Family Computer in Japan in 1985 and on MSX in Japan as Bomber Man Special in 1986. It was released on the international counterpart of the Famicom, the Nintendo Entertainment System, in North America as Bomberman in 1989 and as a budget release through Disk Writer kiosks for the Famicom Disk System as Bomber Man in Japan in 1990.
It was included as a bonus in the Game Boy game Bomber Boy, which was released in Japan in 1990, in North America as Atomic Punk, and in Europe as Dynablaster. The latter two titles were both released in 1991. Bomber Boy was included in the three-game multicart, Bomberman Collection, with Bomberman GP and Bomberman GP 2 in Japan in 1996.
A port of the NES version was released for Palm OS worldwide in 2001. The version included in Bomber Boy was released as part of a two-game multicart, Bomberman Selection, with Bomberman GP in South Korea for the Game Boy Color in 2003. The NES version was released on Game Boy Advance as part of the Famicom Mini series in Japan, the Classic NES Series in the United States, and the NES Classics series in Europe in 2004. It was also included in Hudson Best Collection Vol. 1: Bomberman Collection with Bomberman II, which was released in Japan for Game Boy Advance in 2005.
In 2026, the NES version was included in the Super Bomberman Collection for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S worldwide.
