Double Fine Will Be at PAX East this weekend

Double Fine will be coming to PAX East this weekend. They'll be at booth #6123 showing off Day of the Tentacle Remastered and Headlander. They'll also have three Double Fine Presents titles, Gnog, Gang Beasts, and Everything. A new title will be shown at the show as well.

They'll also be selling merchandise at the show, including the Raz and Two Headed Baby Pinny Arcade pins, and a new special edition game bundle box. The bundle contains 10 games, with 10 game cards drawn Jon Magram and Melissa King. The game cards can be seen below (click to see them in a larger size).

I'll also be volunteering at the Double Fine booth at PAX East this weekend, so if you're at the show, come by and say hello. :)

Costume Quest Is Getting a Cartoon Adaptation

Frederator is making a short cartoon based on Costume Quest. The company is known for Adventure Time (it's creator, Pendleton Ward, designed a prototype as part of Double Fine's last Amnesia Fortnight) and Bee and Puppycat (who appeared in cardboard cutout form in Costume Quest 2).

The writer and storyboarder for the project is Zac Gorman, who also wrote the excellent Costume Quest comic book adaptation, Invasion of the Candy Snatchers.  It's set to be a single 11 minute short, but, some Frederator cartoons have been picked up as full series from the initial short, so there's always the possibility of more.

In other Double Fine news, Massive Chalice will get full release and leave early access on June 1st.

Publisher Axes Unannounced Double Fine Game, 12 Laid Off

Double Fine's publisher woes haven't improved as of late it seems, as Gamasutra is reporting that one of Double Fine's unannounced projects was unexpectedly cancelled by its publisher, which led to them having to lay off 12 people.

Tim Schafer states that "Broken Age, Massive Chalice, and Grim Fandango Remastered, were unaffected".

Hopefully those affected get back on their feet soon and I wish them the best of luck in the future.

Sales, Releases, and Previews

For the next couple of hours, you can pick up The Journey Down: Chapter One on Steam for less than $1 USD. If you hurry, you can also continue the journey for a discount, as Chapter Two is on sale on Steam as well, for 10% off the usual price.

If you're wondering how the third and final chapter of The Journey Down is coming along, you can head over to the Skygoblin website, where they have some work in progress sketches of locations you'll visit in Chapter Three, as well as some hints as to what the game will be like.  They're aiming for an 80′s action movie feel for this chapter, in contrast to the noir vibes of previous chapters, which make for an exciting finale.

The Shadowgate remake has been updated with a quest for Halloween entitled the Dread Pumpkin Quest. The update also comes with new features, such as additional achievements. additional options and keybinds, the ability to play with retro graphics, a new Iron Man mode that increases the challenge of the game, an advanced hint system, a key to highlights all objects that can be interacted with in a room, a new tutorial system, an additional game mode for those new to the Shadowgate universe, and a wheel based command system.

Also, if you pledged high enough on the Massive Chalice crowdfunding campaign but couldn't test the beta right away since it was originally Windows only and you use Mac or Linux, you're in luck. The 0.83 beta patch was released on Halloween with Mac and Linux support.

While we're on the subject of Double Fine, Brutal Legend Limited Edition is shipping now after a short delay. If you already ordered it, you should be getting an e-mail with a tracking code shortly. If you missed the October 23rd deadline, don't worry, as you'll be able to pick it up after all the boxes have shipped for $25, while supplies last.
