It was released on FM-Towns in 1990, then on DOS and 16-bit Windows in 1992.
The Manhole: New and Enhanced was created with a newer version of Activision's MADE engine than the one used in the 1989 DOS version of The Manhole. It was further expanded into The Manhole: Masterpiece Edition in 1994.
The Manhole: New and Enhanced is now supported by ScummVM, a program designed to let 2D adventure games run on multiple platforms. With ScummVM, it can run on modern versions of Windows, as well as Linux, Mac OS X, and many consoles such as Dreamcast, Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable.
