Humongous Entertainment is a children's adventure game developer that was founded in 1992 by Ron Gilbert and Shelly Day, both formerly of LucasArts.  The company was purchased by GT Interactive in 1996, which was in turn sold to Infogrames, whose US branch became Atari in 2003. In 2005, Atari sold Humongous Entertainment back to the main Infogrames branch in France. Infogrames renamed Humongous Entertainment to Humongous in 2006.

Atari filed for bankruptcy in January 2013, and Tommo purchased Humongous at the bankruptcy auction in July 2013. Tommo renamed the company back to Humongous Entertainment.  The current Humongous Entertainment owns all the rights to their Junior Adventure series and games based on those series, but does not own the rights to their Backyard Sports series, as those rights were purchased by The Evergreen Group, nor the rights to the strategy game Moonbase Commander, whose rights were purchased by Rebellion.
