Broderbund is a video game company that was founded by Doug and Gary Carlston as Brøderbund in Eugene Oregon. They were purchased by The Learning Company in 1998, and Mattel purchased the Learning Company in 1999.  In 2000, Gores Technology Group acquired The Learning Company from Mattel and then sold the Broderbund name and most of it's intellectual property to Riverdeep in 2001 (however Ubisoft gained the intellectual properties of some of the larger Broderbund titles, such as Myst, when they purchased The Learning Company in 2001).  Riverdeep continues to publish productivity and edutainment titles under the Broderbund brand.
